Scott McKay Torches Louisiana GOP Campaign: ‘Everything About It Was Bad

The aftermath of Louisiana’s elections continues to spark debate, and Scott McKay, publisher of The Hayride, did not hold back when discussing the recent U.S. Senate race and the broader political landscape.

Appearing on Talk Louisiana, McKay offered a blunt assessment of the campaign run by Senator-elect Julia Letlow, arguing that the race was far closer than many Republicans expected.

“Letlow’s campaign was atrocious. Everything about it was bad,” McKay said. He pointed to the narrow margin of victory over Democratic challenger Jamie Davis as evidence that Republicans cannot rely solely on party affiliation to win elections.

Despite his criticism of the campaign, McKay suggested Letlow could perform better once in office. “Let’s hope for the next six years that she’s better at the job than she was interviewing for the job,” he said.

The conversation also focused on Louisiana election administration, particularly late-reporting early voting and absentee ballot totals. McKay acknowledged the Democratic Party’s focus on banking early votes but said the delayed reporting raised questions among voters.

Looking ahead, McKay believes Louisiana Republicans must avoid complacency and continue making a strong case to voters. He warned that simply having an “R” next to a candidate’s name may no longer guarantee success.

Beyond politics, McKay highlighted Louisiana’s booming economy and encouraged state leaders to capitalize on opportunities emerging from neighboring states. With Louisiana approaching an estimated $300 billion in announced economic development investments, he suggested Governor Jeff Landry aggressively recruit businesses from Georgia and Texas.

On Louisiana’s congressional races, McKay expressed confidence in Republican candidates Blake Miguez and Gabe Firment, predicting both would ultimately prevail in their runoff elections.

“They’re young, they’re energetic, they’re super conservative, and they don’t back down,” McKay said. “They’re both going to be really, really good congressmen.”

As election analysis continues, McKay’s comments reflect the growing debate among Louisiana conservatives about campaign strategy, voter turnout, and how Republicans can maintain momentum in future statewide races.
