Robert Ainsworth Outlines Vision for Justice of the Peace District 6

A Focus on Local Service

Robert Ainsworth, a candidate for Justice of the Peace in District 6, joined Mornings With Brian Haldane to discuss his background, the role of the court and his reasons for running.

Ainsworth said his motivation centers on public service and helping people at the local level. His legal experience includes work on behalf of St. George voters during the incorporation effort, including research that contributed to a Louisiana Supreme Court decision.

He described the Justice of the Peace Court as the “people’s court,” where residents can resolve smaller civil matters without the expense and complexity of higher courts. He said he wants to make the process accessible, professional and efficient for people who represent themselves.

Experience in Law and Mediation

Ainsworth grew up in Bossier City before attending LSU and later earning his law degree from Southern University. While working full time, he participated in a mediation clinic and later completed additional mediation and conciliation training.

He said those skills could help him handle emotionally charged cases, including evictions and disputes between landlords and tenants. Ainsworth emphasized the importance of explaining the legal process while remaining within the court’s limits and avoiding legal advice to individuals.

Changes Ahead for District 6

Ainsworth also discussed changes to Justice of the Peace districts and the potential impact on court caseloads. He expects the expanded footprint could significantly increase the volume of cases.

He supports greater use of digital filing and clearer, form-driven processes to improve efficiency. He also said he wants to keep the court in its current location because he believes residents can access it easily.

Ainsworth said his goal is to bring his legal and mediation experience to the bench while maintaining a professional, accessible court for District 6 residents.
