Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area will host its annual Walk to Remember on October 24, bringing families, caregivers and community supporters together to raise awareness and funds for dementia services.

Supporting Families Living With Dementia
Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area provides education and support for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory-related dementia.
Auten emphasized the importance of supporting caregivers, who often take on a demanding, around-the-clock role. The organization offers educational programs, financial literacy classes, risk-reduction resources and a Lunch and Learn series that families can access for practical information.
The organization also operates Charlie’s Place, a respite center that provides care for people living with Alzheimer’s while giving caregivers a six-hour break.
Auten described that break as an important opportunity for caregivers to recharge while knowing their loved ones remain in a supportive environment.
Walk to Remember Set for October 24
The Walk to Remember will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the former Blue Cross campus on Bluebonnet Boulevard in Baton Rouge. The walk itself begins at 9 a.m.
The event honors people who have died from Alzheimer’s and those currently living with the disease. Participants can register as individuals, families, workplace groups, social clubs or teams.
The morning will also feature food, music, vendors and a Memory Market where attendees can learn about resources available throughout the Capital Area.
Community Support Matters
Auten said the event provides more than fundraising and awareness. It also gives families an opportunity to connect with others who understand the challenges of dementia caregiving.
