Community Event Supports Local Students
East Baton Rouge Parish school board member Emily Soule and special guest Lester Ricard joined Mornings With Brian Haldane to promote the annual Battle on the Bluff, a high school football jamboree that raises money for local schools.
The event takes place Thursday and Friday at Southern University’s A.W. Mumford Stadium. Twelve EBR-area teams will compete in six games, giving student-athletes a chance to experience the excitement of playing in a major college stadium.
All proceeds from ticket sales return to the participating schools. Organizers encourage families, alumni and community members to attend and support the students.
Battle on the Bluff Highlights Student Achievement
Soule emphasized that the event celebrates more than football. Student-athletes must maintain their grades and attend school to participate. Ricard said the experience also gives students a chance to dream bigger by seeing themselves compete in a college-level environment.
The event also features school bands and cheerleaders, highlighting the teamwork and discipline students develop outside the classroom.
Band Together Campaign Provides New Uniforms
Soule also discussed Band Together, a fundraising campaign designed to provide uniforms for EBR high school bands.
Several schools need new uniforms, including Bel Air, Broadmoor, Capitol, Easton, McKinley, Northeast, Scotlandville, Tara and Woodlawn. Liberty has already received uniforms, while Glen Oaks will receive new uniforms soon.
Community members can donate through the East Baton Rouge Schools Foundation and support either an individual school’s band or the broader campaign.
Community Support Makes a Difference
Soule encouraged residents from both public and private-school communities to support EBR students. She said attending games, purchasing tickets and donating to programs can provide immediate support for students who work hard in the classroom, on the field and in the band room.
The Battle on the Bluff offers the community a chance to celebrate those achievements while directly supporting local schools.
