Monroe-West Monroe Tourism Gains Momentum Through Sports, Events and New Development

Alana Cooper highlights Northeast Louisiana’s growing tourism appeal, expanding hotel capacity and strong community partnerships.

Tourism Growth Across Monroe-West Monroe

Alana Cooper joined “Mornings with Brian Haldane” during the 2026 Louisiana Travel Summit to discuss the growing tourism industry in Monroe-West Monroe. She explained how new development, major events and community partnerships continue to attract visitors to Northeast Louisiana.

The region has seen increased demand from workers supporting major projects in the area. Those visitors also spend money at local restaurants, hotels and attractions, creating a ripple effect throughout the local economy.

Cooper said Monroe-West Monroe currently has about 2,500 hotel rooms, with additional properties under construction. New hotel capacity will help the area accommodate both business travelers and tourists.

Youth Sports Drive Tourism

Youth sports remain a major tourism engine for the region. Cooper highlighted the Sterlington Sports Complex, which features 10 fields, including five with 370-foot fences designed for older baseball divisions.

The complex has hosted national events and continues to attract teams and families from outside the region. Cooper said strong sports facilities, affordable accommodations and local restaurants make Monroe-West Monroe an appealing tournament destination.

The area also continues to expand its recreational offerings. The launch of the Ouachita Parish paddling trails gives visitors another way to experience Northeast Louisiana’s waterways and wildlife.

A Destination for Weekend Getaways

Cooper also encouraged travelers to explore the area’s food, shopping and hospitality options. Antique Alley offers boutiques and specialty shops, while the Hotel Monroe provides a distinctive setting for visitors, weddings and events.

The region has also embraced accessible tourism. Monroe-West Monroe recently hosted the National Wheelchair Basketball Championships, welcoming athletes from across the country.

Cooper said the community’s greatest asset remains its people. Local volunteers, elected officials and tourism leaders work together to create a welcoming experience.

For Monroe-West Monroe, that combination of hospitality, sports, outdoor recreation and economic growth is helping put Northeast Louisiana firmly on the tourism map.
