St. George Secures $25M for Massive Siegen Lane Infrastructure Overhaul

St. George Mayor Dustin Yates announced a major financial boost for the city’s infrastructure. The municipality secured a $19.25 million federal BUILD grant to transform Siegen Lane. When combined with a $5 million local match, the total investment creates a $25 million project to fix this hazardous corridor.

Fixing a Dangerous Roadway

Siegen Lane ranks as one of the area’s most dangerous corridors. Over the last four years, the road saw nearly 2,000 vehicle accidents, 500 injuries, and multiple fatalities. The current setup features a middle turn lane that causes massive traffic confusion.

To eliminate these hazards, the city will install a raised center median to funnel traffic into logical access points. Crews will also completely resurface and restripe the road from I-10 to Airline Highway. Additionally, the plan includes subsurface drainage upgrades, landscape buffers, and improved transit stops. The city expects to break ground before 2028.

Planning for the Future

This massive infrastructure push aligns with the newly launched “St. George Comprehensive Plan 2050”. The 25-year blueprint guides long-term land use, public safety, and housing developments to manage rapid population growth. Consequently, city officials urge residents to share their feedback at the next public dialogue session on July 22nd at City Hall.
