New Orleans Showcases Global Impact During Sail 250 and Culinary Events

New Orleans spent the past week in the national spotlight. The city welcomed thousands of visitors for Sail 250 and hosted North America’s 50 Best Restaurants awards. Both events showcased the city’s culture, economy, and food scene.

Sail 250 Draws Huge Crowds

Tall ships from around the world lined the Mississippi River during Sail 250. Visitors toured vessels from Argentina, Peru, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.

Kelly Schultz of New Orleans & Company said the event drew large crowds throughout the weekend. Sail 250 marks the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday celebration. New Orleans served as the first stop on the multi-city tour.

The event gave visitors a chance to experience the city while learning about its role in American history and commerce.

More Than a Tourism Destination

Schultz said Sail 250 created an opportunity to tell a bigger story about New Orleans.

The Port of New Orleans plays a key role in the nation’s economy. The region moves grain, energy products, steel, chemicals, and other cargo through the Mississippi River system every year.

City leaders used the event to highlight New Orleans as a center for trade, transportation, and business.

New Orleans Restaurants Earn National Recognition

The city also hosted North America’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony.

Several local restaurants earned top honors. Dakar NOLA ranked fourth on the list and claimed the title of Best Restaurant in the Southern United States. Emeril’s Restaurant ranked No. 20, while Acamaya earned the No. 30 spot.

Chef Emeril Lagasse also received the event’s Icon Award.

New Orleans Restaurant Week runs from June 8 through June 14. More than 70 restaurants plan to offer special menus and dining deals.

The city will also welcome Gumball 3000 from June 5 through June 11. The international rally will bring luxury vehicles, celebrities, influencers, and car enthusiasts to New Orleans for several days of events.
