Mason’s Grill Shares Secrets Behind Award-Winning Burgers and Baton Rouge Favorites

Mason’s Grill has become one of Baton Rouge’s favorite restaurants. The local spot is known for its award-winning burgers, Louisiana seafood, and busy weekend brunch service. During a recent appearance on Talk 107.3’s Foodie Friday, owner Robert Alamirie shared what makes the restaurant stand out.

A Baton Rouge Tradition

Mason’s Grill opened in 1998 and has served local diners for nearly three decades. Alamirie purchased the restaurant four years ago after leaving the corporate world. Since then, he has continued the restaurant’s focus on quality food and friendly service.

Today, the menu includes burgers, seafood, steaks, tacos, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles. However, brunch remains one of the restaurant’s biggest draws. Mason’s serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Burger That Earned National Attention

The restaurant’s Cajun Burger has become a customer favorite. It also received national recognition from Food Network. The burger features a half-pound Black Angus Choice beef patty topped with sautéed shrimp, jalapeños, and pepper jack cheese.

According to Alamirie, Choice-grade beef provides the right balance of flavor and value. The marbling helps keep the burger juicy while adding flavor to every bite.

More Than Just Burgers

Another popular menu item is the Bangin’ Burger. It includes bacon, cheddar cheese, and fried shrimp tossed in Mason’s house-made honey jalapeño sauce. The same sauce is also used on the restaurant’s popular wings.

Seafood lovers often choose the Mason’s Plate. The dish features jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and topped with crawfish étouffée. Meanwhile, brunch guests continue to order the restaurant’s chicken and waffles, served with a homemade caramel sauce.

Tips for Home Cooks

Alamirie also offered advice for cooking steak at home. He recommends starting with a Choice-grade cut, seasoning it well, cooking it cold, and letting it rest before serving.

Mason’s Grill is located at 13556 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge and remains a favorite destination for Louisiana comfort food.
