Bill Cassidy is encouraging Louisiana voters to head to the polls this Saturday as the state’s Senate primary approaches. During a Tuesday morning radio interview, Cassidy discussed voter turnout, campaign attacks, and confusion surrounding the election.
Cassidy said Republican voters will decide the race. He also reminded independent voters they must request a Republican ballot if they want to participate in the GOP primary. Cassidy argued the Republican nominee will likely win the general election because Louisiana remains a strong Republican state.
The senator also defended himself against campaign attacks tied to pharmaceutical companies and healthcare lobbying. Cassidy said President Donald Trump’s team recently worked with him on legislation focused on lowering prescription drug costs. He pointed to bills he helped write and negotiate as proof of his healthcare record.
Cassidy also addressed the flood of political advertisements and text messages voters are receiving before election day. He claimed some outside groups are spreading false information during the race. At the same time, he defended criticism aimed at opponents by saying public records and past statements support those claims.
During the interview, Cassidy admitted many voters feel confused about the election. Ongoing debate over congressional district maps and ballot changes has added to that confusion, according to the senator. Cassidy warned some voters may not even realize a Senate race is happening this weekend.
Cassidy ended the interview with one final message for voters. He urged Louisiana residents to show up Saturday and cast their ballots before polls close.
