As the school year wraps up across Baton Rouge, local law enforcement officials are urging students to think twice before taking part in pranks or risky behavior that could carry serious consequences.
During a recent Crime Stoppers segment, officials said the end of the school year often brings an increase in dangerous trends, impulsive decisions, and incidents involving teenagers. They especially warned graduating seniors to stay aware of how quickly a prank or bad choice can escalate into a criminal matter.
Crime Stoppers representatives recently visited the Louisiana Youth Challenge Program and spoke directly with cadets about accountability and decision-making. Officials said students should remember that actions taken “for fun” can leave long-term consequences that affect jobs, college opportunities, and futures.
Authorities also highlighted several active investigations during the segment.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office continues searching for information connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash involving 63-year-old cyclist Herschel Brown. Investigators believe Brown was struck near Jefferson Highway and Willow Trail Drive around 5:45 a.m. in February. He later died from his injuries.
Officials believe someone in the community may have seen a damaged vehicle tied to the crash. Crime Stoppers urged anyone with information to come forward anonymously through the P3 Tips app or by calling 344-STOP.
Baton Rouge Police are also searching for three theft suspects accused of stealing merchandise from a clothing store on Airline Highway before fleeing in a black SUV.
In Ascension Parish, deputies continue searching for 27-year-old Brandon Vasquez on multiple domestic violence charges, including strangulation and child endangerment.
