Airport Delays Disrupt Travel at MSY
Travel through Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) has become increasingly difficult due to staffing shortages and security slowdowns. Crouere said travelers now face long wait times and must arrive hours before their flights.
Some travelers report arriving six hours early just to ensure they make their flights. Airport officials have advised passengers to arrive at least three hours before departure, doubling the usual recommendation.
The delays come as national issues surrounding federal agencies and security staffing ripple across airports. While the problem affects multiple cities, Crouere noted that New Orleans appears to be experiencing particularly severe disruptions.
The timing could pose challenges for tourism if the issue continues into major events such as French Quarter Festival and Jazz Fest, both of which attract large crowds each spring.
Murphy Paul Joins New Orleans Sheriff Transition Team
Crouere also discussed the appointment of former Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul to help guide the transition for the incoming Orleans Parish sheriff.
Paul brings decades of law enforcement experience. During his tenure in Baton Rouge, he helped establish the Real Time Crime Center, which uses technology and data to assist investigations.
The new sheriff’s administration hopes experienced leaders like Paul will strengthen operations and improve public safety in New Orleans.
Crouere said the move signals an effort to bring in seasoned professionals as the office shifts leadership after years of controversy surrounding the previous administration.
