Louisiana trucking companies still feel the damage
A Louisiana trucking owner says lawsuit abuse still hurts businesses across the state. Randy Guillot of Triple G Trucking told Talk 107.3 that staged crash scams and legal abuse continue to drive up insurance costs for local trucking companies.
Guillot said his company got caught in the fallout from the New Orleans 18-wheeler “slam” scam. He said Triple G Trucking lost its insurance carrier during that stretch. He believes Louisiana’s legal climate helped create the problem and made it worse for businesses trying to operate fairly.
Insurance costs hit businesses and families
Guillot said the damage goes far beyond one scam. He argued that fraudulent claims and lawsuit abuse have created a system that costs everyone.
He said trucking companies face sky-high insurance rates. Small operators and independent truckers feel the same pressure. When costs rise for trucking, those costs can affect the price of goods and services across the state.
Guillot also said trucking remains essential to daily life. If a product is on a store shelf, a truck likely helped get it there.
Guillot says Louisiana still needs reform
Guillot said lawmakers have made some progress, but not enough. He said Louisiana still ranks among the worst states for lawsuit abuse and unfair legal practices involving trucking.
He also said local companies often face tougher challenges than out-of-state carriers. That puts Louisiana-based trucking businesses at a disadvantage.
Guillot confirmed Triple G Trucking was involved in one of the staged crash cases tied to attorney Daniel Patrick Keating, who pleaded guilty in the federal case.
