Shaping Baton Rouge Transit: MOVE 2050 Plan Unveiled

The Capital Region Planning Commission is steering regional transit forward through the ambitious MOVE 2050 plan. Host Brian Haldane sat down with Jamie Setze from the Capital Region Planning Commission to discuss how long-term infrastructure planning addresses regional traffic gridlock, economic development, and safety priorities.

Financing Long-Range Infrastructure Goals

MOVE 2050 serves as a 25-year blueprint for allocating key infrastructure funds across the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. Gas tax revenues directly back high-priority local corridor upgrades like the LA 30 widening from Gourrier Avenue to Brightside Drive. Local funds through MOVE BR add crucial momentum by extending improvements through East Baton Rouge, Iberville, and Ascension Parishes.

Interstate Congestion and Regional Alternate Routes

Widening LA 30 delivers a critical relief valve for drivers stuck in heavy traffic along the I-10 corridor. Connecting Baton Rouge through Plaquemine to Gonzales gives motorists a dependable alternative when accidents stall interstate traffic. Furthermore, environmental impact studies for an additional Mississippi River bridge continue advancing to relieve bottlenecked commutes.

Upcoming I-12 Corridors and Public Access

Transportation officials are actively evaluating capacity options along I-12, including potential HOV lanes using existing inside shoulder space. Public participation remains open through upcoming virtual and in-person sessions designed to gather critical community feedback.
