Claire Hebert-Marceaux, Community Affairs and Social Responsibility Manager for Bechtel Corporation, discussed Louisiana’s growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, workforce development and community investment during an appearance on Mornings With Brian Haldane.
Speaking from the LNG Summit in Lake Charles, Hebert-Marceaux highlighted the state’s role in the global energy market and the importance of building strong relationships with local communities.
Bechtel’s Role in Louisiana’s LNG Industry
Bechtel brings extensive experience to LNG construction projects worldwide. The company has operated in 160 countries, employs more than 25,000 people and has helped build more than 30% of the world’s LNG capacity.
In Louisiana, Bechtel helped construct the Sabine Pass LNG facility and continues to support major energy infrastructure projects, including Louisiana LNG.
Hebert-Marceaux emphasized that successful projects require collaboration among customers, contractors, suppliers and local businesses.
Creating Opportunities for Louisiana Businesses
Hiring locally remains a priority for Bechtel. The company works with economic development organizations, chambers of commerce and state officials to connect Louisiana businesses with contracting opportunities.
Potential opportunities range from engineering and environmental services to supplying water, ice and other essential resources for construction sites.
Hebert-Marceaux said local companies can participate in major industrial projects when they understand project requirements and build the necessary relationships.
Investing in Workforce Development and Communities
Bechtel also supports workforce training initiatives that help residents prepare for careers in the energy industry. Through partnerships with Sowela Technical Community College, the company has supported pipefitting training and plans for electrical training opportunities.
These programs help students develop skills they can use on projects in Louisiana and around the world. Career opportunities extend beyond construction trades to accounting, training and project management.
Hebert-Marceaux also stressed the importance of social responsibility, including coastal restoration, community partnerships and local charitable initiatives.
Building a Stronger Future for Southwest Louisiana
As LNG development expands, Hebert-Marceaux said companies must balance project growth with responsible community engagement.
Her message was clear: successful energy projects should create economic opportunities, strengthen local communities and leave Louisiana better positioned for future generations.
