Baton Rouge Economic Growth Gains Momentum With Major Investments and New Projects

Greater Baton Rouge Sees Strong Economic Development

The Greater Baton Rouge region continues to attract major economic development projects, according to Trey Godfrey and Jayson Newell of the Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership.

Newell, the organization’s interim co-CEO, joined Godfrey on Mornings With Brian Haldane while Haggai Davis filled in as host. The conversation focused on Louisiana’s recent economic wins and what they mean for the Capital Region.

Newell pointed to major investments announced across Louisiana, including SpaceX’s planned expansion in south Louisiana and Amazon’s additional investment in North Louisiana. Together, those projects represent more than $100 billion in announced capital investment.

Capital Region Pipeline Remains Strong

Newell said the Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership continues to see a “very robust” project pipeline. The organization receives inquiries from Fortune 500 companies, startups and businesses across the spectrum.

He said the quality of those opportunities stands out. Companies that previously overlooked Louisiana now show greater interest in the Capital Region.

Godfrey emphasized that economic development involves more than announcing projects. Getting previously announced investments built and operational remains a major priority.

New Bridge Could Strengthen Workforce Mobility

The discussion also highlighted the importance of a potential new bridge south of Baton Rouge. Newell described the project as more than an infrastructure improvement—it could become a workforce development tool.

A new river crossing could connect workers on both sides of the Mississippi River with more jobs and industrial opportunities. Godfrey noted that billions of dollars in projects are moving forward on the West Bank of Ascension Parish, making workforce mobility increasingly important.

More Projects Could Be Coming

The Partnership also highlighted major milestones for Hyundai Steel and CF Industries. Newell said the organization is working on several additional opportunities and suggested that Baton Rouge could see more announcements within the next month.

While confidentiality prevents officials from revealing details, both guests expressed optimism about the region’s economic future.
