Louisiana Reaches Employment Milestone
Louisiana recently reached an all-time high for employment. More people are working today than at any point in the state’s history. However, officials say workforce participation remains a challenge. Many working-age adults remain on the sidelines due to issues such as childcare, transportation, disabilities, or a lack of job-ready skills.
Louisiana Works Secretary Susie Schowen said the state has an opportunity to bring tens of thousands of people into the workforce by addressing those barriers.
Louisiana Talent Works Creates New Employer Focus
A package of workforce bills creates a new employer-focused initiative called Louisiana Talent Works. The program will allow Louisiana Works to work directly with employers and industry sectors to identify workforce needs and provide targeted training support.
Officials estimate the initiative will generate roughly $35 million in workforce funding without using state general fund dollars. The program also expands access for smaller businesses and increases flexibility for workforce training efforts.
One Door Model Continues Expansion
The reforms also support Louisiana’s One Door workforce strategy. The goal is to simplify access to job training, benefits, and support services through a more connected system. State leaders believe a streamlined process can help more residents find employment and advance their careers.
Another bill aims to create greater consistency across Louisiana’s 15 workforce regions. State officials have already submitted waiver requests to the federal government and expect a response later this summer. Implementation will continue over the next 18 months.
Supporters say the reforms will help Louisiana meet workforce demands as major economic development projects continue to expand across the state.
