Louisiana Senate Race Heads to Runoff as Moon Griffon Sounds Off on Cassidy Loss

Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race is heading into a runoff, and conservative radio host Moon Griffon says Sen. Bill Cassidy only has himself to blame for the loss.

During an interview Monday morning with Talk 107.3 host Brian Haldane, Griffon discussed Cassidy’s defeat and the fallout from the senator’s vote to convict former President Donald Trump during Trump’s second impeachment trial.

Griffon said Cassidy’s biggest mistake was not the vote itself, but repeatedly defending it in national media appearances.

“I think he hurt himself,” Griffon said during the interview. “Moon Griffon didn’t hurt him. Nobody hurt him but himself.”

Haldane pushed back slightly, calling Cassidy “a man who’s dedicated his life to service,” while arguing the senator waited too long to explain his reasoning behind the impeachment vote.

The conversation then shifted to the runoff race between Julia Letlow and John Fleming. Griffon said he was surprised Letlow captured 45% of the vote and blamed “dark money” advertising for damaging Fleming’s campaign.

Griffon argued the runoff will come down to turnout rather than television ads. He said Fleming’s path to victory depends on identifying supporters and making sure they vote during early voting and on Election Day.

The runoff election is scheduled for June 27, right before the July 4 holiday weekend. Griffon warned that timing could significantly impact voter turnout across the state.
