New Orleans Tourism Surges Past 19 Million Visitors as Major Events Fuel Growth

New Orleans is seeing tourism numbers climb again after welcoming more than 19 million visitors in 2025, marking one of the strongest years in the city’s history. Officials with New Orleans & Company say the city reached 19.46 million visitors last year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and generating more than $10 billion in visitor spending.

During an interview on Talk 107.3, Kelly Schultz with New Orleans & Company said the tourism industry remains one of the largest economic drivers in the country. National Travel and Tourism Week recently highlighted the industry’s impact, which supports millions of American jobs nationwide.

Schultz said New Orleans overcame several challenges throughout 2025, including economic concerns and disruptions following the New Year’s Day attack in the French Quarter. Despite those setbacks, major events helped keep momentum strong throughout the year.

The city hosted large-scale events including the Super Bowl, UFC Championship events, and the launch of the Amtrak Mardi Gras train route. New Orleans also earned recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Music, while several local restaurants received Michelin honors.

Tourism leaders are now preparing for several major events expected to bring even more visitors to the city. New Orleans will host IPW in 2027, one of the country’s largest international travel conferences. The event attracts travel buyers, journalists, and tourism professionals from around the world and is expected to boost tourism business for years afterward.

Before then, the city will launch “Sail 250” later this month as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration. The six-day event will feature international naval ships, fireworks, cultural programming, food, and live entertainment along the Mississippi River.

Schultz said New Orleans continues to prove it can host world-class events while maintaining the culture and hospitality that keep visitors returning year after year.
