Louisiana Republican leaders are urging voters to head to the polls Saturday and support four proposed constitutional amendments they say could impact education, taxes, and state government operations.
During an interview on “Mornings with Brian Haldane,” Cory Dennis, executive director of the Louisiana Republican Party, encouraged residents to carefully read each amendment before voting. He criticized voters who automatically vote “no” on constitutional amendments without reviewing the details.
Dennis said amendments one through four represent “good government” reforms that could help move Louisiana forward.
One of the biggest topics discussed was Amendment 3, which would make teacher pay raises permanent instead of relying on yearly stipends. Dennis called the proposal overdue and said Louisiana teachers deserve stable salary increases.
Brian Haldane also described Amendment 3 as potentially one of the most impactful statewide proposals on the ballot because of its direct effect on education.
The conversation also focused on Amendment 4, which deals with Louisiana’s inventory tax system. Dennis explained the amendment would allow parishes to decide whether to impose inventory taxes instead of requiring it statewide. Supporters believe the move could help businesses and consumers.
Dennis also defended Amendment 1, which would give lawmakers more authority over how certain state government jobs are classified. He described the proposal as a government reform measure designed to improve accountability.
According to Dennis, early voting numbers showed Democrats slightly outpacing Republicans statewide. He urged Republican voters to show up Saturday and support amendments one through four.
