Small businesses in Ascension Parish are getting a stronger support system as the Micro Business Enterprise Corporation of Ascension continues to expand its reach. The organization focuses on helping entrepreneurs start, grow, and compete in a rapidly developing region.
MBECA works with businesses at every stage. That includes early ideas, startups, and companies with up to 499 employees. The goal is simple. Help local businesses get ready for real opportunities. That means building business plans, securing funding, and meeting requirements to work with larger companies.
Executive Director Lee Melancon says preparation is the biggest gap. Many small businesses want contracts with major industries but lack key pieces like insurance, bonding, or certifications. MBECA steps in to close that gap.
The program comes at no cost. It is funded through the Louisiana Department of Economic Development. That makes it accessible to anyone in the region who wants to grow a business. Melancon points out that small businesses make up over 98 percent of the state’s economy, making this support critical.
Partnerships also play a key role. MBECA works closely with the Ascension Chamber to connect entrepreneurs with decision-makers. These relationships help small businesses move from learning to landing real contracts.
That effort will be on display during Ascension Small Business Week. A major event is set for May 14 at the Price LeBlanc PACE Center in Gonzales. The day includes workshops, networking, a resource fair, and direct conversations with industry leaders.
