The Igniting Hope Gala returns to Baton Rouge Thursday night. Unbound Now hosts the event to support survivors and raise awareness across Louisiana.
Many people misunderstand human trafficking. Some confuse it with prostitution. Others think it only happens overseas. In reality, it happens here at home and often starts through manipulation and control.
Tupper says traffickers build trust before exploiting victims. In many cases, they use relationships, not force. As a result, victims often struggle to leave. However, strong support systems can help them recover.
Unbound Now works with law enforcement, hospitals, and child services to identify victims. Then, the team connects those individuals with counseling and long-term care. Last year, the organization helped more than 350 children. In addition, over 100 entered long-term advocacy programs.
Louisiana’s location adds another challenge. Interstates like I-10 and I-12 connect major cities. Because of that, traffickers move victims quickly across regions. At the same time, online platforms create new risks. Traffickers often target youth through social media and gaming apps before arranging in-person meetings.
The gala takes place at the Renaissance Hotel on Bluebonnet Boulevard. Guests will hear from a survivor, enjoy dinner, and learn how to get involved. Most importantly, the event focuses on recovery and real solutions.
Tickets cost $100, and only a few remain. So, organizers urge the community to act now.
Awareness matters. But action creates change.
