Washington Mardi Gras wasn’t just about tradition this year — it became a showcase of Louisiana’s growing economic strength. After returning from D.C., Anna Johnson said the week’s events consistently pointed to one theme: economic development. Every reception, breakfast, and panel highlighted bold moves in energy, workforce, and industry growth.
Governor Jeff Landry’s Louisiana Lightning Speed Initiative set the tone. Signed just before the trip, the executive order aims to streamline workforce processes, break down agency silos, and accelerate major projects statewide. Johnson noted that agencies like Louisiana Workforce Commission and Louisiana Economic Development are now coordinating more efficiently than ever. That approach helped deliver major wins, including the Hyundai steel project in Donaldsonville, Meta’s expansion, and the $17.5 billion Woodside investment in Southwest Louisiana.
She emphasized that Louisiana is no longer sitting at the bottom of national rankings. Improved fourth-grade math and reading scores signal rising educational outcomes, which boost quality-of-life metrics that companies look for when choosing a home for new projects. Johnson said this surge in momentum is attracting national attention, with federal leaders and business influencers increasingly spotlighting Louisiana as a state to watch.
A standout example came when Hyundai partnered with River Parishes Community College to train 1,500 workers for its massive project — a model Johnson believes Louisiana can replicate statewide. She highlighted how state agencies, educational partners, and private companies are aligning to build self-sustaining pipelines for growth.
That collaborative strategy, she said, is transforming Louisiana into one of the most competitive states in the country. With new policies, faster processes, and a long-term vision in place, Johnson expects even more major announcements ahead. Washington Mardi Gras proved one thing: Louisiana is stepping into the spotlight — and this time, it’s for all the right reasons.
