USA Boxing shortlisted Baton Rouge alongside Detroit and Oklahoma City to host the week-long qualifying event in December 2027. If selected, the city expects over 2,000 athletes and coaches, generating roughly 8,000 hotel room nights during a traditionally slow post-college football window.

Visit Baton Rouge works continuously to secure major conventions and sports competitions. The city funds these tourism initiatives through an occupancy tax paid exclusively by hotel guests, ensuring zero burden on local property taxpayers.
“We weigh these economic impacts,” explained Laura Cating of Visit Baton Rouge. “We needed the council’s permission to waive more rental fees because these visitors pay dividends across our local economy.”

Beyond boxing, Baton Rouge’s packed calendar features the American Darters Association, the Louisiana Marathon, and major corporate conferences. Decision-makers expect an official host announcement for the Olympic Trials this fall.
