Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge Marks 31 Years of Supporting Local Families

Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge is celebrating a major milestone this week as the organization marks 31 years of its “Celebrate the Family” event. The long-running program honors community members who demonstrate outstanding service and leadership across the Capital Region. This year’s celebration highlights four honorees whose work has made a meaningful impact: Judge Don Johnson, Rose Hudson, William “Will” Campbell, and Tim Young.

Evelyn Gibson joined us to share how the event continues to grow while staying true to its mission. She explained that Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge aims to provide accessible support for anyone who needs it. The organization offers individual and group counseling, domestic abuse intervention, parenting classes, supervised visitation, and free HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C testing. Families can also access an in-house clinic that expands their reach even further.

Gibson noted that demand for services remains high. The counseling department stays open until 8 p.m. and provides both in-person and virtual options. The organization accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and even those without insurance. Funding comes from grants, donations, and supportive community partners, including Open Care South Medical and Dental and Open Health Caring Clinic.

“Celebrate the Family” recognizes individuals who stand out for their volunteerism and commitment to the community. Anyone can nominate an honoree, and a committee selects the final group. This year’s brunch offers attendees a chance to celebrate the honorees’ work and learn more about the organization’s mission.

The event takes place tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Executive Center at 250 North Foster Drive. Tickets are $50, and tables are available for $500. To learn more or reserve a seat, visit fsgbr.org or call 225-927-9810.
