Metrocouncilwoman Jenn Racca joined Brian Haldane Wednesday Morning to talk about the idea of undedicating and rededicating funds in the City-Parish budget. At the root of the discussion is Mayor President Sid Edwards’ proposal to undedicate the Library’s budget, fold them into the general fund, and use available surplus topay for other needs in EBR like a police pay raise, infrastructure projects, and other items the city desperately needs.
While that was the starting point of the discussion, Councilwoman Racca quickly moved into a much larger discussion of how bleak EBR’s financial situation is. Citing recent Metrocouncil meetings, she explained that the need for funds didn’t develop overnight, but rather years of governance that created that has needed an overhaul for some time.
Racca talked about process and what it would take to move dedicated money into the general fund.
