Larry the Cable Guy Brings Comedy and Backyard Mayhem to New Show

“American Mayhem” Debuts This Weekend

Larry the Cable Guy is bringing his signature humor to a new television project, American Mayhem. The comedian joined Mornings With Brian Haldane to discuss the show, his career and the experiences that helped shape his comedic style.

American Mayhem features Larry reacting to funny and often outrageous videos involving trucks, cars, fishing, outdoor adventures, races and backyard stunts. The show embraces the kind of unscripted humor that has been part of Larry’s comedy for decades.

The program premieres September 19, with episodes airing on WBRL.

From Stand-Up to Mater

Larry has built a career across stand-up comedy, radio, television and movies. His breakthrough came through the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which helped introduce his distinctive character and style to a national audience.

He also reached a new generation through his role as Mater, the lovable tow truck in Pixar’s Cars franchise. Larry said the character introduced his comedy to children who later became college students and fans of his broader work.

He recalled visiting the University of Nebraska and seeing young fans react enthusiastically when he performed as Mater, demonstrating the character’s lasting cultural impact.

Improvisation Drives the New Show

Larry said American Mayhem allowed him to return to the quick-thinking approach he developed during his early stand-up career. Most of his commentary on the videos came through ad-libbed reactions rather than a traditional script.

The result is a fast-paced comedy format built around unexpected moments and everyday mishaps.

Larry also reflected on his previous work in Louisiana, including filming in the Atchafalaya Basin. He said he enjoyed the experience and praised the people he met along the way.

With its combination of outdoor antics, vehicles and spontaneous comedy, American Mayhem gives Larry another opportunity to make audiences laugh while exploring a different side of his career.
