The 7th Annual Louisiana Custom Knife Show is returning to Ascension Parish, showcasing fine craftsmanship, forged steel, and functional artwork. Taking place September 19–20 at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center Trademart Building in Gonzales, Louisiana, this premier regional event features over 135 tables hosted by 92 premier knife makers and craft suppliers representing more than 30 states.
From Humble Beginnings to National Prominence
Organizer Stephen Prather launched the event in 2020 alongside the Louisiana Custom Knife Association. What began in the back of a Lafayette gun store warehouse with just 20 tables has rapidly evolved into a massive showcase for regional and national artisans. Attendees can explore a vast selection of handcrafted blades ranging from $100 everyday utility tools to $10,000 high-end collector items.
The Art of Forged Steel
Master blade smiths will exhibit custom creations made using intricate techniques like Damascus steel forging. This meticulous process folds alternating layers of steel—sometimes reaching thousands of layers—to form striking, one-of-a-kind geometric patterns. Beyond finished blades, vendors will offer raw materials, handle stocks, belts, and specialized equipment for aspiring knife makers.
A Hands-On Family Tradition
More than a retail exhibition, the show celebrates traditional trade skill preservation across generations. The Louisiana Custom Knife Association actively hosts instructional workshops throughout the year, including popular father-son blade-making sessions.
