The longtime Baton Rouge burger institution will launch Dearman’s South at Brickyard South, bringing classic burgers and new specialty creations downtown.
Dearman’s Expands Downtown
Baton Rouge burger fans will soon have a new place to grab a Dearman’s burger.
Dearman’s Diner, a local staple since 1958, will open Dearman’s South at Brickyard South on South Boulevard. The new concept will operate from a converted food truck and give customers a more casual, grab-and-go way to enjoy the longtime restaurant’s signature food.
The grand opening is set for August 29. Dearman’s South will initially operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday with hours running from noon to midnight.
Classic Burgers, New Ideas
Dearman’s has built its reputation on keeping its burgers simple and consistent. The restaurant’s classic six-ounce burger features beef, mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions.
The restaurant uses a fresh 80/20 beef blend with steak trimmings. Dearman’s gets its beef ground daily from Calvin’s in the Shane Shopping Center.
While the original Jefferson Highway location will maintain its traditional menu, Dearman’s South will give the team more freedom to experiment with new flavors.
One featured creation combines house-made pepper jelly, Creole aioli, fried onions, bacon and cheddar cheese. Jalapeños and habanero peppers add heat, while the pepper jelly brings sweetness and smoky flavor.
A New Chapter for a Baton Rouge Classic
Weston Williams, who started as a part-time Dearman’s employee, will oversee day-to-day operations at the new location. Casey Evans said promoting from within will help preserve the qualities that have kept Dearman’s successful for nearly seven decades.
The original Dearman’s location will continue serving customers on Jefferson Highway while the restaurant also expands its catering and community partnerships.
Dearman’s South gives the Baton Rouge institution a chance to reach a new audience without changing what made the original a local favorite. For burger lovers, August 29 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for one of Baton Rouge’s most recognizable food traditions.
