Local first responders are stepping onto the basketball court for a powerful cause. The annual Ball For A Cause showcase brings together police officers and firefighters for friendly competition with a bigger mission: supporting local youth programs and non-profit organizations.
Cops vs. Firefighters: A High-Energy Showcase
This year’s event features six teams, including local departments from Baton Rouge, Prairieville, Port Allen, St. George, and the Sheriff’s office. Instead of a high-stress tournament, the showcase focuses on entertainment, community connection, and solid basketball action. Every dollar raised directly impacts local initiatives, including the Behind the Lines non-profit and upcoming youth camps.
Empowering Youth Through Sports and Mentorship
Following the showcase, Team Sportsplex will host its second annual Back to School Free Community Camp. Partnering with former NBA stars Marcus Thornton and Langston Galloway, the event provides over 110 children with essential school supplies, basketballs, shirts, and meals. Local leaders design these initiatives to build confidence, character, and leadership skills both on and off the court.
Organizers emphasize that sports serve as a bridge to model positive behavior in the community. Organizations like IDE Basketball (Intensity, Determination, and Energy) continue to build family-oriented environments where young athletes thrive together across all age levels.
How to Attend Ball For A Cause
Community members can catch the action starting at 6:00 PM tomorrow at Team Sportsplex. Admission costs $5 at the door, with proceeds benefiting local first responder charities and youth programs. Walk-ups are also welcome for the free youth camp on Saturday morning.
