SQL Saturday Day of Data will bring hundreds of technology professionals, students, and job seekers to LSU on Saturday, July 18.
Thomas LeBlanc joined Mornings with Brian Haldane with Haggai Davis filling in for host to share details about the free event. The Baton Rouge User Group organizes the event each year with help from volunteers and sponsors.
The event takes place at the LSU Business Education Complex on Nicholson Extension. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the first sessions start at 8:30 a.m.
What Attendees Can Expect
SQL Saturday started as a SQL Server-focused event, but it has grown into a full day of technology learning. This year’s event includes about nine tracks covering IT infrastructure, analytics, professional development, SQL Server, and more.
LeBlanc said the event usually draws between 300 and 400 people. Sponsors also attend, including companies that want to connect with potential employees.
The day includes five sessions in each track, a keynote, lunch, and a closing raffle. Calvin Favre, owner of Invoke, will deliver the keynote around 10:50 a.m.
Attendees also get a free lunch, with jambalaya typically served for about 300 people. Vegetarian meals are available for those who request them during registration.
Career Growth Takes Center Stage
One of the most popular sessions focuses on careers in IT. The panel gives attendees a chance to hear from local employers and industry leaders.
Other sessions cover resume design, career coaching, personal growth, and finding meaningful work in technology.
LeBlanc said those career-focused sessions often draw some of the largest crowds.
