LifeFest returns to downtown Baton Rouge this Saturday, April 4, offering a full afternoon of gospel music, prayer, and community connection ahead of Easter weekend. The free event runs from noon to 6 p.m. at Galvez Plaza and welcomes families, churches, and residents from across the region.
Organizers say LifeFest is more than a music festival. It is designed to bring churches together outside their walls and create a unified space for worship, prayer, and outreach. Evangelist Virgil Smothers said the event focuses on “life, deliverance, salvation, prosperity, and most importantly, the love of Jesus Christ.”
This year, about 11 churches are participating, with more expected to join in the future. The event is not tied to any single denomination. Instead, it encourages unity across the broader faith community. Leaders will lead prayers at the top of each hour, covering topics such as first responders, elected officials, families, and peace in the city.
Attendees can expect live gospel performances throughout the day, along with a wide range of activities. Food trucks and local vendors will be on site for adults. Kids can enjoy bounce houses, obstacle courses, games, and scavenger hunts. Organizers also confirmed free food and drinks for children, including hot dogs, nachos, ice cream, and soft drinks.
The event continues to grow each year. What started as a church picnic has expanded into a large public gathering, now in its 14th year. The past four years have marked its shift into a citywide event open to everyone.
Organizers stress one key message: all are welcome. Guests can come and go as they please, bring their families, and take part in a day centered on unity, faith, and community in Baton Rouge.
