U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy covered foreign policy and rising costs during a Thursday morning interview. He tied the situation with Iran to what families feel every day at home. His focus stayed on one word: affordability.
Iran conflict and U.S. strategy
Cassidy said Americans do not want a long war. He pointed to President Donald Trump and his push to avoid “forever wars.” The goal, he said, is simple. Complete the mission and get out.
He said recent strikes weakened Iran’s nuclear ability. Still, the threat remains. Iran can impact the Strait of Hormuz, which plays a major role in global oil supply. That matters because it directly affects gas prices.
Keeping that route open is critical. Cassidy warned that control of the strait could give Iran billions in revenue and more power across the Middle East.
Rising costs hit Louisiana families
At home, Cassidy said three issues are driving costs higher: fuel, groceries and health care. Higher gas prices raise the cost of transportation. That increase then shows up at the grocery store.
He pointed to everyday workers, including those commuting across the Baton Rouge area, as the ones feeling it most.
Health care is also part of the problem. Cassidy said he is working on a plan to lower drug prices and reduce insurance costs for families and employers.
Homeland Security funding update
On Capitol Hill, Cassidy said progress is being made. House Republicans are now expected to support the Senate plan to fund ICE, Homeland Security and FEMA disaster relief.
Lawmakers are aligned, he said. The next step is getting the bill passed and moving forward.
