Baton Rouge Family Court Race: Joseph Cataldie Focuses on Families, Children, and Court Efficiency

Candidate highlights experience ahead of May 16 election

East Baton Rouge voters will weigh in on a key family court race on May 16, with attorney Joseph Cataldie making his case to serve on the bench. Early voting runs from May 2 through May 9.

Cataldie, a lifelong Baton Rouge resident, brings nearly two decades of legal experience. He clerked in Baton Rouge City Court, worked with the District Attorney’s Office, and served in family court early in his career. He has spent the last 15 years focused almost entirely on family law.

Focus on real cases, not just processing

Cataldie said family court requires a different approach than other courts. Judges handle divorce, custody, child support, and domestic violence cases. These situations often involve high stress and emotional conflict.

He said people want to be heard and treated fairly. They also want a clear path forward. Cataldie said his goal is to handle each case with care and focus on long-term outcomes for families and children.

Heavy caseload remains a major issue

Cataldie pointed to a heavy workload in East Baton Rouge Family Court. He said child support enforcement days and domestic violence cases create packed dockets.

He said the challenge is simple. Move cases efficiently while still giving each one the attention it deserves.

Cataldie said his decision to run comes from a desire to serve the community. He believes strong families lead to a safer parish.
