A Milestone Year for Louisiana Business
Louisiana ended 2025 with new momentum for business and economic growth. According to Louisiana Association of Business and Industry President and CEO Will Green, the year delivered reforms that had stalled for decades. Notably, these changes aim to make the state more competitive and easier to do business in.
LABI marked its 50th anniversary by returning to its core mission. The organization focused on trust, growth, and opportunity. As a result, lawmakers passed policies designed to attract investment and support employers across the state.
Tax Reform Improves Competitiveness
First, tax reform delivered measurable results. Louisiana eliminated the corporate franchise tax. In addition, leaders lowered and flattened personal and corporate income taxes. Because of those changes, the state moved from the 40s into the 30s in national tax rankings.
That progress matters. Lower and simpler taxes make Louisiana more attractive to employers. They also help existing businesses grow and reinvest locally.
Insurance and Legal Reforms Address High Costs
Meanwhile, lawmakers tackled one of the state’s biggest challenges: high insurance costs. Louisiana ranked among the most expensive states for property and casualty insurance. However, the issue was not more accidents or unsafe drivers.
Instead, outdated legal standards drove costs. Therefore, leaders modernized the civil justice system. They replaced pure comparative fault, strengthened “no pay, no play” laws, repealed the Housley presumption, and improved transparency around medical billing. Over time, these changes should attract more insurers and increase competition.
Workforce and Education Take Center Stage
Finally, workforce and education reforms added more wins. Lawmakers doubled down on early reading and math skills. The Louisiana Numeracy and Excellence Act strengthens teacher training and student readiness. At the same time, the High Impact Job Program supports high-wage, in-demand careers.
Because of these efforts, Louisiana improved its education rankings. National leaders took notice and visited the state to study the progress.
Looking Ahead to 2026
In the end, leaders see these reforms as a foundation, not a finish line. Still, after years of slow movement, Louisiana made real gains. The state now heads into 2026 with stronger rankings, growing confidence, and a clearer path forward.
