Major Adjustments as College Drive Flyover Advances

The College Drive flyover project is set to bring significant changes to the Interstate system. Rodney Mallett from the Department of Transportation discusses the upcoming modifications. Currently, drivers on I-10 West must weave across I-12 to reach the College Drive exit. Starting tomorrow, I-12 will pass under the I-10 overpass and merge on the left side of I-10, simplifying the process for drivers. This temporary configuration will last for 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the weather.

During this period, dedicated exit lanes to College Drive will be constructed, eliminating the need for weaving. After this phase, drivers on I-12 West will merge with I-10 West traffic on the left side, near the Jersey barrier wall. Although the change may seem confusing initially, Mallett assures that drivers will adapt quickly.

For the next 6 to 8 weeks, the process of getting off at College Drive from I-12 will mirror the current process for I-10. This temporary setup is necessary to construct the dedicated exit lanes. Mallett acknowledges that change can be challenging, but once drivers adjust, traffic flow will improve.

The new configuration will benefit both I-10 and I-12 drivers. The dedicated exit lanes will reduce congestion and confusion, especially during peak hours. The new off-ramp for I-12 West will be located just after the big turn to I-10 Eastbound, making it easier for drivers to navigate.

Once the project is complete, there will be dedicated lanes on both I-10 and I-12 for exiting at College Drive. The changes at the College Drive exit will also include dedicated lanes for Corporate Boulevard, improving traffic flow in the area. Mallett emphasizes that the project aims to mitigate congestion and enhance the overall driving experience.
