The Business Benefits from the Special Session

Susan Bourgeois, Secretary of Economic Development, discusses the recent legislative session’s impact on Louisiana’s economic policies. She highlights significant progress in changing tax policies to make Louisiana more competitive. The session focused on lowering the cost of doing business and simplifying tax processes, including eliminating the franchise tax.

This change aims to attract new businesses and encourage reinvestment from existing ones. Bourgeois emphasizes the importance of changing the narrative about Louisiana’s opportunities, making it more appealing for businesses and residents. The state moved from the bottom 10 to the top half of the Tax Foundation’s business Tax Climate Index, marking a significant improvement. Despite this progress, Bourgeois notes that the work is not finished, and further efforts are needed to continue enhancing Louisiana’s economic landscape. The session’s outcomes are seen as a meaningful step towards positioning Louisiana for future success and growth.
