The Race for the 6th Congressional District is Underway

Elbert Guillory, a former state senator, decided to run for Congress after receiving around 200 phone calls urging him to get involved following Congressman Graves’ decision to step down. Guillory believes that the government is currently failing the people and emphasizes the need to bring protection back. He feels that his district, which is a majority-minority district, aligns more with his mindset and beliefs than with the Hollywood liberal leftist agenda. Guillory believes that his district, which includes his home parish and most of his former state senatorial district, will be able to move beyond issues of party and race to address real issues such as crime, inflation, immigration, and education.

Guillory highlights his extensive governmental experience, noting that he has successfully worked across the aisle. He cites his work on Louisiana’s reentry program, which he drafted and passed unanimously through both the Senate and the House, as an example of his ability to get things done. Guillory was named legislator of the year during his first year in the Louisiana State Legislature and earned a spot in the Louisiana Justice Hall of Fame for his work on the reentry program.

Guillory is motivated to run for Congress to protect families, address crime, control federal spending, and improve education. He emphasizes the importance of education, sharing that it was the way out of slavery for his family. Guillory is committed to addressing the diverse needs of his district, which includes both rural and urban areas. He proposes initiatives such as bringing shrimp farming to Louisiana to reduce reliance on imported shrimp. Guillory believes that finding common ground and working with people across the district is key to addressing the major issues they face.
