Will Green, President and CEO of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), discussed the importance of legislative scorecards post-session. These scorecards assess legislators’ support for key business measures, reflecting their commitment to promises made during elections. LABI prioritizes legislation that can improve the state’s business climate and job market, then scores legislators based on their voting records. However, scoring committee votes has proven challenging and is not currently included in the scorecards to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Green also highlighted the upcoming workers’ compensation seminar, addressing Louisiana’s high costs in this area, which rank 46th in the nation. The seminar aims to educate and bring experts together to discuss policies that could improve the system, which currently keeps injured workers off the job longer than other states and incurs high medical costs.
LABI serves as the state’s Chamber of Commerce, advocating for business-friendly policies and providing educational programs to support businesses. The organization is preparing for the workers’ compensation conference on October 3rd and 4th and a golf tournament on October 21st to support its foundation. These events are part of LABI’s efforts to offer comprehensive support to its members and the broader business community in Louisiana. Green emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering a favorable business environment in the state.
