In the ongoing legislative session, there have been significant developments related to education reform. Senator Rick Edmonds, along with Senator Kirk Talbot and other Senate members, played a crucial role in advancing a bill that addresses key issues. This legislation represents an excellent starting point, although there are still some kinks to work out. Joining the show to speak more on this issue is Director of Education and Workforce Development, Mary Beth Hughes from LABI.
One notable achievement is the passage of the ESA (Education Savings Account) bill, which garnered attention during the session. Governor Landry’s involvement and the engaging debates in the Senate chamber contributed to this highlight.
However, the ESA bill isn’t the only important piece of legislation. State Representative Jason Hughes, based in New Orleans, aims to enhance the Steve Carter literacy program. His proposed bill increases per-pupil funding and renames the program to the Steve Carter Education program. This change will provide students with better access to tutoring and other educational resources.
Additionally, Representative Hughes has another bill related to tuition autonomy currently under consideration. His commitment to education reform is commendable, and these legislative efforts promise positive impacts for Louisiana’s students.
