What Is The Future of Baton Rouge’s Riverfront?

Weekdays 6am-9am

Whitney Hoffman Sayal, the Executive Director of the Downtown Development District (DDD) in Baton Rouge, plays a crucial role in enhancing and revitalizing the city’s downtown area. With over eight years of experience working for the DDD, she has been involved in various projects that have transformed public spaces and improved infrastructure.

The recent focus has been on the riverfront, which is considered one of Baton Rouge’s greatest assets. Last week, an open house was held to discuss the riverfront’s potential. The DDD collaborated with LSU landscape architecture students to explore ideas for the riverfront, stretching from the water campus to River Park.

River Park, a 40-acre property just north of the Queen Casino, has been a canvas for creative thinking. The students proposed diverse concepts, including a Skate Park, additional green spaces, attractive public areas, hotels, residential developments, sports fields, playgrounds, and even retail spaces. Among these ideas, the possibility of a boardwalk along the riverfront is being seriously considered1.

Whitney Hoffman Sayal’s leadership has been instrumental in securing grants for projects like the Downtown Greenway and River Road. Her vision and dedication continue to shape Baton Rouge’s downtown landscape, fostering a vibrant and dynamic community1.
