Crimestoppers With Sergeant Pittman 5-28-20

Sergeant James Pittman with the BRPD Traffic Homicide Unit joined us for this week’s Crimestoppers segment to talk about the spike in fatal crashes and wrecks involving pedestrians.  With the stay-at-home order recently in place, there has been less crashes overall, but the number of fatal crashes has increased 46% from last year.  Sergeant Pittman says that every year Baton Rouge is in the top 5 or 10 nationally in terms of fatal crashes.  He explains research and investigations conducted by BRPD to try and determine the cause of these accidents.  He also talks about the Baton Rouge hot spots in terms of pedestrian crashes.  Finally, Sergeant Pittman breaks down ways that distracted driving can be reduced and how BRPD can crack down on distracted drivers.
