D.C. Current With Garret Graves 2-12-20

Garret Graves

For this week’s D.C. Current segment, Congressman Garret Graves was on the show to talk about plans to make the Mississippi River deeper.  Graves said that this is a big deal because the Mississippi river is a major part of our economy.  There are 5 of the top 15 ports in America that are tied to the river in some way.  He says that with shipping trends, boats have gotten deeper and wider, making it more difficult to fit in the river.  Making the river deeper will allow larger vessels to travel through the Mississippi which will drastically improve the economy.  Then, Congressman Graves discusses the $13 million allocated to the Port of South Louisiana and what the money will be used for.
