Congressman Graves Announces More Grant Money For Area Schools

Garret Graves

Congressman Garret Graves announced Saturday that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a federal grant totaling $2,806,758.53 to the Ascension Parish School Board for Galvez Primary School for the replacement of contents damaged in the 2016 flood.

This is the second announcement of FEMA grants to schools in the 6th Congressional District this week. Wednesday, November 27, 2019, while talking with Brian Haldane on his weekly DC Current segment, the Congressman announced that a grant was awarded to Christo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School. That grant totaled $1,215,843.12. It too, was to reimburse Cristo Rey for repairs related to the 2016 flood.

The Congressman told Haldane that the Christo Rey grant was part of close to $200 million in federal spending to make the schools whole, “in the wake of a flood that literally wiped out tax bases in the areas where these schools are located.” Saturday’s announcement falls in that same category.
