Rowdy Gaudet On Panhandling

Rowdy Gaudet from the Mayor’s Office joined us today to talk about the aggressive panhandling that is occurring in Downtown Baton Rouge.  Gaudet says that aggressive panhandling within the homeless population has been an issue for a while but it is steadily growing because of the rise in the homeless population.  Rowdy says that “the one stop program is  set up to provide services to homeless people and they’ve seen a rise in first time people registering for services because they are experiencing homelessness.”

He says that some of these folks are native to Baton Rouge but a lot of these folks appear to be sent here on a bus.  Rowdy talks about how the Mayor’s office is working with non-profit organizations and law enforcement to lower the homeless population in Baton Rouge and what they plan to do with the homeless people who do not want help.
