For this week’s Crimestoppers segment, Brian welcomed in Sergeants Kyle Callahan and Rendi Richard to discuss topics such as suicide prevention, PTSD and a 5k run.  Richard talks suicide prevention and how social media causes a lot of suicidal thoughts.  She also explains how people can support someone, whether it be a friend, loved one, or a total stranger during difficult times in order to prevent suicide attempts.

Sergeant Callahan explained PTSD to Brian.  He talked about what certain things on the job could cause officers to suffer from PTSD and how you can deal with symptoms of it.

They also discuss a 5k that brings awareness for the need of resources, education, and support for first responders’ mental and physical wellness, as well as the prevention of suicide.  The event is Saturday, September 21st at 6:00PM, registration starts at 5.  It will take place at BRPD Headquarters at 9000 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge LA.

Brian started in radio in late 2004 as a part-time board operator, but “made his bones” in the business a year later when Hurricane Katrina struck, catapulting him into a full time position covering both news and production of live broadcasts.
