Methanex announces an expansion of the company’s Louisiana operations with a $1.3 billion investment to construct a third methanol plant in Ascension Parish. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says the plant will create 62 new direct jobs with competitive wages.
“About $80k per year plus the benefits, excellent jobs there. It’ll bring 1,000 construction jobs that’ll be needed over the next three years,” said Pierson.
Methanex is based in Canada. Pierson says the state is very attractive to the needs of the company.
“We have the supply that they need of the raw materials. We have the great port system that allows to move this product globally,” said Pierson.
Pierson says with the wide variety of uses, methanol is a product critical to all economies.
“It’s used in everything from plywood to bottles, paint, sealants, even clean-burning fuel. So, what they have found here in Louisiana is the right location to access the global economy,” said Pierson.
The operation is expected to begin in 2022.
