State Representative Paula Davis joined the show to recap the legislative session.

What is being done to improve transportation in Louisiana?

Paula Davis discusses what got done in the legislative session in terms of transportation.  She explains a bill that she had which was house bill 414, this bill would give a portion of future state sales and motor vehicle taxes to infrastructure to improve roads and bridges.  That particular bill did not pass this year but she plans to bring it up again next year.

How will blighted properties get cleaned up?

Davis says that her bill will provide tools to local government so that they can address blighted properties before they destroy the community.  This bill outlines what the tax collector has to do with these blighted properties.  You have to provide certified mail to interested parties, you have to post notice at the property,  and contact the owner of the property to confirm that tax sale is occurring.  Once the tax sale goes into place, the property owner has three years to get the property back.

What is being done about the opioid crisis in Louisiana?

Paula had a bill that says that in-patient residential facilities where opioid use is being treated has to provide medication assisted treatment.  You have to be able to provide medication treatment plans if requested by a doctor.  She hopes this will help patients more than absence treatments.
