2017 was a GREAT year for BREC, our city parks department. Let’s count ’em up…

I have often said a great city has great public parks, and BREC spent 2017 making that a reality. Let’s look at just a few of the many accomplishments of our public park department over the past 12 months…

*Expansion and installing air conditioning of recreations centers at the Anna T. Jordan, the Jefferson Highway, Gus Young Baker and Antioch BREC parks

*Two new thrill rides AND a surfing simulator were added to the Liberty Lagoon water park

*BREC completed its first boat launch at the Highland Road Community Park

*Major renovations to the Howell and N. Sherwood Community Parks

*And…just in time for the New Year, an addition to the Botanical Garden at the Independence Community Park.

In the weeks ahead, BREC will push on with continued improvements and innovations to make sure we have a public parks system to be proud of. Watch this space for information on a special Volunteer Tree Planting Day and other terrific plans ahead. I’ll say it again: get out and enjoy the many things BREC has to offer the Capital City. Playgrounds, dog parks, nature trails, athletics facilities and SO much more and remember: IT ALL STARTS WITH BREC!!
