Closures announced due to threat of severe weather

The National Weather Service has declared a “Moderate Risk” of severe showers or thunderstorms today, with the possibility of hail, damaging winds and even tornadoes. This has led to a large number of area schools closing for the day. Here is the list of closures, as of 11 a.m. today (02/23/16)






Ascension Parish

Ascension Public Schools – Closed Tuesday

River Parish Community College (Gonzales) – Closed Tuesday

East Baton Rouge Parish

Baker School District – Closed Tuesday

Baton Rouge Christian Academy – classes are canceled for students, but teachers should still report

Baton Rouge Community College classes canceled beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday

Catholic schools in Central will be closed Tuesday

Central Community School System – Closed Tuesday

Central Private School – Closed Tuesday

EBR Head Start classes are canceled for Tuesday

East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools – Closed Tuesday

Episcopal School will be closed Tuesday

Friendship Capitol High – Closed Tuesday

Fundamentals Early Learning Center – Central, East Baton Rouge Parish, Livingston Parish locations closed Tuesday

La. School for the Deaf and Visually Impaired is closing day school Tuesday (for non-resident students)

LSU classes canceled beginning at noon on Tuesday. University offices will remain open.

Parkview Baptist School is closed Tuesday

Southern Lab will be closed Tuesday

Southern University classes canceled starting at noon Tuesday

St. John School in Zachary is closed Tuesday

U-High will be closed Tuesday

All non-essential EBR City-Parish employees, who are not essential to storm-related activities, will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. today

City of Plaquemine officials will close city offices at 11:30 a.m. today. Only essential employees will remain in duty after that time.

Louisiana Senate

The Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee hearing originally scheduled for today has been cancelled. The committee will instead meet tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24th.

St. Helena Parish Police Jury – Office closes at noon and the Tuesday evening meeting is canceled

Brian Haldane

Brian started in radio in late 2004 as a part-time board operator, but “made his bones” in the business a year later when Hurricane Katrina struck, catapulting him into a full time position covering both news and production of live broadcasts.
